Teen 100 Mentoring Program

The purpose of the mentoring program is to provide teens with an opportunity to gain skills in articulating basic social and economic concerns. Such skills are important in all relationships - from friendships with their peers, college roommate relationships, relationships with siblings and parents. The mentoring program is also designed to promote self-awareness and role modeling during a period when teens are establishing their identity and preparing to move into adulthood.

Our program will focus on developing a relationship between a mentor or adult role model and the teen so that the teen will become an independent citizen capable of taking direct responsibility for making pragmatic decisions for their own education and personal life. As Mentors, we will encourage the teen to attend school on a regular basis; give direction and guidance to the teen partners in areas of educational and career aspirations; share skills and competencies with teen partners to enable them to understand more concretely the world of learning, respect for the rights of the parent/guardian and to inform that person of plans and/or changes in plan; and finally, to aid the teen in entering an institution of higher learning.

Your teen’s participation in the program hopefully will result in positive growth both at school and at home. The mentoring experience shall contribute to enhanced self-esteem and life satisfaction as your teen navigates adolescence.
